When you are considering a local move in the Greater NYC or Long Island area there are a number of wonderful communities to choose from for your relocation. Picking one to settle in can be difficult. To help with your search, Quality Moving & Storage has put together a list of five of the best neighborhoods to move to on Long Island.
Greenport
As one of the safest neighborhoods on Long Island, Greenport is a good spot for families, couples, and single people. You'll also have an easy commute from the Greenport Railroad Station. No need to deal with city traffic when you live here.
It does cost more to buy a home here. Greenport properties start around the low 900k mark and go up from there. However, the charming small town atmosphere and views of the Peconic River keep drawing new residents in. Greenport is also close to some of the East Coast's most famous wineries, for those who are wine aficionados.
Plainview
Families and those working in the Big Apple prefer Plainview for its high quality of life and easy access to the Long Island Expressway. Plainview is also within 5 miles of a mass transit station if you don't feel like driving into New York City.
This conservative neighborhood is also home to a lot of retirees. So, it is a quiet community with a slower pace of life. Residents can save a little on homeownership as the average home price just crosses the 900k mark.
Massapequa
A neighborhood that's ideal for families, Massapequa is a great place to raise the little ones. There are six elementary schools and a ton of high schools for you to choose from when it comes to where to send your children for their education.
With low crime rates and access to South Shore beaches and parks, Massapequa also offers safe and fun outdoor activities for families and couples. You'll also save the most by investing in a property here. The average home price in Massapequa is around the low 700k mark.
Bellmore
Another affordable, but still highly family-friendly neighborhood to consider is Bellmore. This small community is close to NYC for commutes, and it boasts great schools. Bellmore residents can also send their kids to the nearby, top-rated John F. Kennedy High School.
With an average home price in the mid- to low- $700k range, Bellmore homeownership is more accessible for middle-class residents than on some other parts of Long Island.
Merrick
Considered as having the best school system in Long Island, Merrick is an ideal neighborhood for families who want their children to have top-class educations. Merrick also happens to be great for commuting. You can take the train to Penn Station within 45 minutes, which is not a bad commute for New York.
Merrick also boasts home values in the mid- to upper 700k range, which is very affordable compared to pricier Long Island neighborhoods.
